How to Clean and Maintain a Sewing Machine

  • A small brush;
  • Compressed air canister;
  • Specific oil for lubrication;

How to clean and maintain a sewing machine

The function of lubricating oil, is precisely to make the movement of mechanical parts smoother, without the risk of failure or overloading of any kind.

The Right Maintenance Step by Step

  1. First, it will be necessary to remove the needle and yarn, remove the sliding plate, bobbin, and presser foot. Everything will then need to be cleaned with a soft cloth very gently. You can help yourself with compressed air to get to hard-to-reach places.
  2. Also clean the thread tensioning lever, pressure and needle bar, bobbin case, tension discs, and outer body of the machine. In this case, it might be useful to take advantage of the action of a cloth moistened with a mild soap but without using overly harsh detergents.
  3. Clean both the feed dog and the looper with a brush and apply a drop of lubricating oil to the places indicated in the instruction manual. This step is very delicate, which is why we strongly recommend keeping the exact directions provided by the parent company handy at all times.
  4. Once the machine has been properly cleaned and lubricated, it will be important to proceed by conducting a trial run before getting down to the business of sewing for good. In this regard, we recommend, for all models, to try a few seams on a scrap of fabric to remove excess oil.
