For the engines of the Q421A e Q132A opted for a 90W model instead of the usual 70 mounted on the vast majority of sewing machines. This provides a speed of up to 1000 stitches/minute, as well as the power needed to sew even very heavy fabrics such as jeans, quilts and upholstery.
Many functions have been simplified so that they are more intuitive even for sewing beginners. The filling of the coil and its threading in the spool holder are clearly marked on the machine without the need for an instruction manual; needle threading is also simplified by the numbered steps screen-printed on the machine. The main spool-holder pin is positioned horizontally and does not get in the way, while a 2nd thread-holder to be mounted vertically is provided, and facilitates sewing with the twin needle, also supplied as standard.
The presser foot has an extra height snap that facilitates the insertion of thicker fabrics and makes sewing easier with its adjustable pressure.
Both have stainless steel worktops, the free arm to sew even collars, cuffs and anything else tubular with due comfort. An extension-base table is also standard for a work surface suitable for even very bulky sewing projects such as quilts and curtains. The presser foot has an extra shot in height and allows you to insert garments up to 10 mm thick. In addition, a knob allows it to be locked in a horizontal position, parallel to the work surface, so it is easier to start sewing even on the most doubled fabrics. The pressure of the same is adjustable via a convenient control on the top to adapt the pressure to the material and achieve professional results. The lever for seam reinforcement or reverse is placed very correctly above the needle, and allows stitches to be reinforced when needed. To its right is the needle positioning lever, an optional extra needed for precision work such as topstitching, creasing, flash applique and more. The selector where to choose the stitch to be made is immediate and precise, just turn it in any direction to choose the program. On the top we find the knob for setting the stitch width up to 6 mm, and the one for precision adjustments of the upper thread tension useful for different sewing techniques and/or special threads.
All components are designed to facilitate work and avoid problems with thread jamming and entanglement.
The handwheel for operating the machine is made of soft-touch material and, which we liked very much, has screen-printed an arrow indicating the direction of rotation of the same to avoid thread garbling. The looper is of the rotary and anti-jam type with a fast-loading bobbin from the top; the thread path is silkscreened on the cover then repeated on the inside as well, definitely foolproof! The fabric feed jaw has 7 ranks or rows of teeth, 2 of which are positioned immediately in front of the needle, thus allowing perfect fabric grip. A convenient lever on the back allows the fabric feed to be excluded, facilitating the insertion of delicate materials such as velvet, allowing free-motion sewing for quilting enthusiasts, and the attachment of buttons. Lighting is provided by a Led light which, in addition to not overheating, has a lifespan of years and years and guarantees a work surface with no shadow zones. Although many people think of these models as machines suitable only for heavy materials, we can assure you instead that they are perfect for even the most delicate materials: fabric transport, adjustment of the pressure of the presser foot, the rotary looper ensure optimal results regardless of the fabric to be sewn.
We now come to the differences between the 2 models: the Necchi Q421A has 21 sewing programs including useful stitches for everyday sewing, stretch stitches for synthetics, decorative stitches to renew or embellish the family wardrobe, and an automatic buttonhole.
The Q132A has 32 stitches, automatic needle threader and one-step buttonhole. Speaking of the buttonhole, the pawn included also allows the making of excellent padded buttonholes, with a cord inserted inside the joists giving a fuller, more defined look, ideal for jackets and coats. Additional stitches, compared to the lower model, include several programs for quilting/quilting and overlock stitching both open and closed.
